1972 Rolex 1680 Red Submariner Date (Original Mk 5 Dial)

The Red Submariner 1680 is a rare and incredibly sought after Rolex model, the earliest of the Submariner 1680’s which featured the name ‘Submariner’ in a single line of red text as opposed to the normal white, and the first Submariner to feature a date complication as well as the famous cyclops lens.  The 1680 reference was produced between 1967 and 1975 and this particular ‘Red Sub’ dates to 1972.  The dial is what is known as a Mk 5 dial (feet first, open sixes) and with red ‘SUBMARINER’ printed directly onto the dial and Swiss-T< 25 at 6 o’clock.

The dial is in superb vintage condition with beautifully aged tritium luminous triangle, dot and baton hour markers and Mercedes hands. The case is in excellent condition and the Rolex stainless steel Oyster bracelet reference 93150 was replaced by Rolex during a service in 2013.

The watch has been fully serviced in house and comes with our own 12 month guarantee, original box and Rolex service guarantee card from 2013.

Dial colour: Original matte finish black dial with original luminous zinc sulphide and tritium lume indices, Red Submariner writing and 660ft = 200m depth rating, date aperture at 3 o clock. Original Mercedes hands.
