1978 Rolex Oyster Perpetual Air-King Precision 5520

The Rolex Air-King 5500 was introduced in 1957 and ‘symbolises the relationship between Rolex and flying in the golden age of aviation’.  A line of watches created specifically for pilots, the Air-King was a tribute to the brave pilots of the second world war.

Although Rolex Air-King 5500’s were made for over 30 years until production finished in 1989, only a very small percentage were made with 14ct gold plating.  These extremely rare watches with 14ct solid gold bezels were nicknamed ‘golden eggs’.
